Datuk Dr Raman Muthukaruppan Chettiar
Datuk Dr Raman Muthukaruppan Chettiar is a senior consultant physician and gastroenterologist based at Hospital Queen Elizabeth since 2004. He serves as the Head of Medical Services for the state of Sabah and Head of the Internal Medicine Department. He is also the Head of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Unit and a therapeutic endoscopist specializing in advanced, minimally invasive therapeutic endoscopy to manage complex pancreaticobiliary diseases and gastrointestinal cancers. Apart from being a clinical physician, he has driven local academia as a past Adjunct Professor at Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Internationally, he evaluates postgraduate medical candidates in internal medicine as an examiner for MRCP(UK) PACES, establishing Sabah as an elite examination hub since 2024. He is the current past president of the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology & Hepatology (MSGH) (2025-2027). He has trained and mentored over 30 gastro fellows since 2009. In recognition of his foundational work, he was conferred the prestigious state award PGDK which carries Datukship title in 2014.
