Dr Izwan obtained his MBBS from JJMMC, India, in 2013 and began his medical journey as a House Officer at Hospital Queen Elizabeth in 2014. After completing his housemanship, he served as a Medical Officer in the Radiology Department at Hospital Queen Elizabeth II, where his interest in radiology continued to grow. He subsequently pursued his Master’s in Radiology at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Driven by a growing interest in thoracic imaging, Dr Izwan went on to undergo further subspecialty training in this field. He currently serves as a Clinical Radiologist with a special interest in Thoracic Radiology, and is presently the only radiologist in Sabah with formal subspecialty training in this area. Beyond his clinical work, Dr Izwan finds great fulfilment in teaching and sharing knowledge with others. He regularly conducts weekly mentoring sessions for Radiology Medical Officers, Master’s trainees and students undertaking the FRCR pathway. He also contributes to the annual masterclass sessions for Respiratory Medicine fellows. For Dr Izwan, teaching is not simply about passing knowledge to others, but also an opportunity to continue learning and improving himself. He believes that “Teaching others only adds to our own understanding.
