Prof DrHangjoo Cho

Dr. HangJoo Cho, Professor of Trauma Surgery at Uijeongbu St. Mary's Hospital, The Catholic University of Korea, is one of the founding pioneers of Korea's trauma surgery field. He began practicing as a dedicated trauma surgeon in 2009, before Korea's regional trauma center program existed, and in 2011 established one of Korea's first trauma surgery departments. From 2012 he pioneered physician-accompanied helicopter response in North Gyeonggi Province. A recognized authority in laparoscopic trauma surgery, he is regarded as a global leader in the field. He currently serves as President of the Association of Regional Trauma Centers in Korea, and is immediate past Chairman of the Korean Society of Traumatology (KST), now directing its Research Institute. In 2026 he received Korea's Prime Minister's Citation for his contributions to the national emergency medical system, and remains one of the most widely recognized figures in Korean trauma care media.
